Kiev is the capital and largest city of Ukraine. Located on the river Dnieper, the center of Kiev agglomeration. Separate administrative and territorial unit of Ukraine; cultural, political, socio-economic, transport, scientific and religious center of the country.

Throughout its history, Kiev was the capital of Polyan, Kievan Rus, Kiev principality, the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Ukrainian People's Republic of Soviets, the Ukrainian state, the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, and since 1991, an independent Ukraine. Because of its importance as the historical center of Russia, the city is called the “mother of Russian cities”; by virtue of the merits of the Second World War period - it carries the highest degree of distinction "Hero City".
